Onyx is a translucent sedimentary calcite, commonly marked by bands, rings, or stripes. Due to change in the meaning of the word over the ages, when ancient texts refer to “alabaster” they actually mean onyx. This translucent stone is synonymous with luxury living and has been used to decorate the living spaces of the rich and famous.
